Hutchison 3G Selects Tibco Software For Roll-Out Of 3G Service

date: July 31, 2001

Hutchison 3G, holder of the UK's largest UMTS licence, announced that it has signed an agreement with TIBCO Software for the supply of its TIBCO ActiveEnterprise product suite, providing enterprise application integration (EAI), data messaging and business process management. This agreement has a provision for extension to other Hutchison markets in Europe.

The financial terms were not disclosed.

The TIBCO ActiveEnterprise solution gives Hutchison 3G the ability to build a complete, end-to-end middleware based integration framework, allowing different applications from different software vendors to be seamlessly integrated. It also scales to the most demanding business information networks. Hutchison 3G companies require a messaging solution that can cope with peaks of in excess of 100,000 messages per second.

Colin Tucker, managing director of Hutchison 3G said, "In a 3G network environment there is a high volume of complex services and transactions taking place. Together with the relevant complicated billing requirements, Hutchison 3G needs an integration and process management solution, which can deal with the complexity and scale of the demands being placed on it . . ."

"3G is a technological milestone, and will become the strongest growth area in the telecommunications industry," said Erik Hansen, president of EMEA for TIBCO Software. "It will act as a catalyst for the rapid deployment of a wide range of mobile services . . .Hutchison 3G's implementation of the TIBCO ActiveEnterprise suite is likely to expedite the decision making of other 3G providers."
