CSL plans 3G by end-2003date: July 23, 2002 According to Hong Kong operator CSL's CEO Hubert Ng has said that it expected to launch 3G services by the end of 2003, provided the demand for mobile data services picks up further. "Data revenue (of CSL) is roughly 5 per cent less than Hong Kong 's market average ... but it's picking up," claimed Ng. CSL's was, a few days back, completely taken over by Telstra after it bought the remaining 40 per cent stake for US$614m (EUR631.63m) from its part owner PCCW - a company looking to get out of the cellphone business so as to reduce its near US$5bn (EUR5.1bn) debt. The Hong Kong carrier, which has about 1.1 million subscribers, is considered to have the most affluent subscriber base on the territory.
