Slovakia gets three 3G operatorsdate: July 24, 2002 Profinet.sk has become Slovakia's third mobile phone provider after it won a license to provide GSM and UMTS services, Slovak officials have confirmed. ISP Profinet.sk must now pay SKK1.5bn (EUR35m) for the licenses. Under the license terms, Profinet.sk must launch GSM services within six months of the actual award of the license and UMTS services no later than 30 months after it the 3G frequencies become available. Profinet must offer network coverage of 20 per cent of the population within 18 months of the license entering into effect, said the telecoms office.
