Malaysia only named two winnersdate: July 30, 2002 The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Tuesday awarded two blocks of 3G, mobile -telephone spectrum, instead of the three planned earlier The winning bidders are state-controlled Telekom Malaysia and UMTS ( Malaysia ) Sdn., a wholly owned unit of Maxis Communications. Commission Chairman Nuraizah Abdul Hamid named the winners at a ceremony Tuesday that was attended by Energy, Communications and Multimedia Minister Leo Moggie. Five companies had put in bids for the 3G spectrum. The others were Technology Resources Industries Bhd.'s unit Celcom (Malaysia), Time Sat Sdn., a unit of Time dotCom, and little-known private firm, E-Touch Sdn..
