Hutchison 3G Awards Location-Based Software Contract To TCSdate: July 30, 2002 TeleCommunication Systems, a key architect of wireless location and messaging software, today announced that in the first quarter of 2002 it was awarded a contract to provide location-based software products and services to Hutchison 3G UK. This agreement for location software products and services represents one of the largest in the industry. The TCS Xypoint Location Platform will initially be deployed in the UK and then in other countries where Hutchison Whampoa has 3G interests. The Xypoint Location Platform (XLP) is built on TCS' Voyager architecture, which easily blends messaging and location applications and enables communications between disparate air interfaces - including analog, 2G, 2.5G and 3G technologies. The XLP supports any application requiring precise and immediate or deferred location data. Additionally, the platform's architecture provides Hutchison 3G with a lower cost for deployment because it uses standard, off-the-shelf hardware. Moreover, location based services and applications can be easily installed or removed from the XLP platform without expensive changes to the core location system. Colin Tucker, managing director of Hutchison 3G, said, "Our location network needs to be reliable and scalable. TCS has a long history in the location business and has the experience and understanding to work closely with us to facilitate deployment of these services."
