Sasken to provide multimedia player to NEC’s 3G terminal
July 3, 2003
Sasken, a provider of telecommunications software and solutions, announced
that its multimedia component technology is to be provided for NEC’s next
generation FOMA phones.
This agreement follows on from the successful use of Sasken’s multimedia
player in NEC’s e606 and e808 models, which have already been deployed
in the market by the 3G network operator “3”. The Sasken Media Player
delivered to NEC is capable of supporting all MP4 format files, including
MPEG-4 video, MPEG-4 AAC audio and AMR speech.
“Our experience in delivering the Media player to NEC, and multimedia
codec components to other developers, reinforces our ability to offer
a broad range of applications to leading global handset suppliers,” states
Colin Aitken, Vice President of Marketing at Sasken. “Having successfully
integrated video capability over mobile into the NEC 3G handset range,
we are now working to deliver multimedia components for FOMA handsets
to enable a host of extended multimedia offerings.”
The MPEG-4 media player is part of Sasken’s range of mobile media codec
engines and multimedia applications that also includes 3G 324 M Video
Phone Terminal and MMS Client. The latter supports 3GPP release 4 specifications
and sustains both mandatory and optional media formats.
Sasken provides a wide range of Multimedia Applications as well as video,
audio and speech codecs, all readily available on leading platforms. Sasken
licences its multimedia solutions to terminal equipment manufacturers
around the world in addition to providing consultancy services for integration
and customisation.
