Ericsson awarded USD 57 million CDMA2000 1X expansion contracts by China
Unicom

Ericsson announced it has been awarded further contracts by China Unicom
to expand their CDMA2000 1X network in Jiangsu and Liaoning provinces,
China.
Ericsson currently supplies its total CDMA2000 1X network solution to
China Unicom in Sichuan, Jiangsu, Henan, Anhui, Yunnan, Heilongjiang and
Liaoning provinces. In addition, Ericsson supplies a multi-access network
based on its CDMA2000 1X network and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)
solutions for China Unicom in Sichuan province.
Ake Persson, president of Ericsson Mobile Systems CDMA said, "Our CDMA2000
solution provides China Unicom with a future proof solution with seamless
migration to the next phases of CDMA2000 1xEV and beyond to all-IP."
"Ericsson has been a committed, local partner in China for more than
100 years and we are dedicated to support China Unicom to generate new
revenue streams and bring advanced 3G services to their customers," said
Jan Malm, President, Ericsson China. "With these additional CDMA2000 1X
contracts, Ericsson further solidifies its market leadership in China."
Deployment in Liaoning and Jiangsu is currently in progress and the expected
commercial launch is in Q3 2003.
Ericsson's total CDMA2000 solutions system includes: Ericsson's leading
800 MHz Compact Radio Base Stations, Base Station Controllers, Mobile
Switching Centers, Home Location Registers, Network Management Systems
and a full portfolio of services including training, network rollout and
technical support. Nanjing Ericsson Panda Communications Company, an Ericsson
joint venture in China, will deliver all Ericsson equipment and services
for the new contracts.
