Alands Mobiltelefon selects Omnitele for EDGE implementation

July 26, 2004

Omnitele has been selected by Alands Mobiltelefon AB (AMT) to assist in the EDGE up-grade of its GSM/GPRS network.

Alands Mobiltelefon AB has a strong local presence on Aland islands and has through close customer contact reached a mobile communications market share of over 50%. The company continuously expands the range of services offered to clients and with EDGE AMT is able to introduce 3G services to its customers, including high-speed mobile data services.

Omnitele, a mobile communications consulting companies, has been selected to ensure the successful introduction of EDGE. Omnitele has a long-term relationship with Alands Mobiltelefon AB and has been a trusted partner in daily GSM/GPRS network optimisation since beginning of 1993. In the coming months Omnitele will support AMT with pre- EDGE implementation network planning, as well as, with EDGE performance and frequency plan optimisation after the EDGE implementation.

"Omnitele has been a vital partner for AMT for years in GSM and GPRS planning and optimisation. Knowing Omnitele's strong experience with EDGE technology, it was a natural choice for us to contract them to ensure our successful EDGE implementation and optimisation as well" -Thomas Lax, CTO, AMT.

"Omnitele is looking forward to assisting AMT in moving towards 3G. With EDGE AMT can provide significantly higher bit rates for its mobile data users than GPRS has delivered so far. It also offers challenges for network performance and capacity optimisation, challenges in which Omnitele's experience with EDGE will be very useful" -Sami Vesala, Senior Consultant, Omnitele.
