Sigma extends broadband OSS to mobile wireless market

July 29, 2004

Sigma Systems, a player in operational support systems (OSS) for service providers, announced the availability of the Sigma Service Management Suite for Mobile Wireless Service Providers. This wireless service management solution has been deployed at a large North American wireless service provider, providing the order management, service provisioning and activation, and billing/customer care system integration for a broad range of leading edge wireless data, voice, paging and multi-media messaging services.

"The deployment of next-generation 2.5G and 3G wireless has led to an explosive growth in new applications and services. Service providers need to respond quickly to new market opportunities and competitors' services," said Brian Cappellani, CTO, Sigma Systems. "Service providers now require new OSS infrastructures that can facilitate rapid introduction and automated provisioning of complex services and service bundles, as well as reduce operating costs and increase margins."

"Subscribers want greater service transparency between their wireline and mobility services, so there is an emerging trend for cable and wireless service providers to partner and offer converged voice and data services," said Larry Goldman, Partner, OSS Observer. "New wireless OSS systems must support the delivery of these converged services."

Sigma's wireless Service Management Suite addresses this challenge and delivers key benefits for wireless and converged services:

- Much faster time to market for new services and new mobile wireless devices

- Automated service bundle provisioning based on handset capabilities

- Powerful order management capability to substantially reduce order fallout, rapidly resolve order problems and provide extensive management reports on order activity

- Deployment of an integrated and common Service Management Information Model that provides a comprehensive view of all subscriber services and orders, service definitions, and network and device capability

- Ability to add or modify service applications and network elements while minimizing any changes in the service provider's order entry, billing or provisioning processes - and delivering the ability to offer a consistent service across a vendor and technology agnostic wireless infrastructure

- Substantial reductions in operational costs as well as delivering proven carrier-class scalability and availability

"The Sigma Service Management Suite for wireless service providers leverages the powerful intelligence in our Service Management Platform (SMP) and Service Management Information Model enabling wireless service providers to offer new and differentiated services more quickly and efficiently," said Tim Spencer, President, Sigma Systems.

The Sigma Service Management Platform is the core of Sigma's comprehensive portfolio of service management solutions, which also includes advanced capabilities for provisioning subscriber services including data services, voice over IP, mobile wireless, wireless data and satellite services, video, video over IP, network and resource management and advanced service assurance tools. Sigma's comprehensive capabilities include support for multi-vendor, multi-service networks including wireless telephony and data, multi-media and messaging services, Packet cable telephony, SIP telephony, GR303/V5.2 telephony, cable high-speed internet, ISP services, wireless 1x, 2.5G/3G infrastructures, and advanced set- top boxes.
