THQ to bring action and sports hit to 3G

July 5, 2005

Amp'd Mobile, the 3G mobile entertainment company for youth/young adults, and THQ Wireless, a subsidiary of THQ, announced an agreement to distribute mobile games and content for Amp'd Mobile's new 3G mobile entertainment experience, Amp'd Live.

Amp'd Mobile, set to launch in the US later this year, will leverage the nation's largest CDMA 3G EV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimized) network and will offer traditional wireless phone services plus a completely fresh user interface and fully customizable experience designed specifically for the 18-35-year-old audience and 3G networks. Via Amp'd Live, consumers will have the ability to more easily purchase content via their wireless phones from THQ Wireless' catalog of mobile entertainment including games, ringtones and wallpapers based on some of the biggest action brands such as WWE and MotoGP, in addition to sports leagues such as the NFL, NBA, MLB and the NHL. All mobile games, wallpapers and ringtones are expected to be populated within a THQ channel within the Games section of the Amp'd Live deck.

"We're thrilled to be working with THQ Wireless to bring the country's most recognizable sports franchises, pure fun entertainment and action games to mobile phones in a new way that makes it even easier to purchase wireless content," said Seth Cummings, VP, wireless content and internet services, Amp'd Mobile. "Our goal is to create a brand-new gaming experience that's optimized for a 3G network - meaning 3D, multiplayer and tons of action like you've never seen before on mobile phones. The combination of THQ's breadth of content and Amp'd Mobile's wireless experience will bring mobile gaming to the next level."

The full line-up of games and pricing is expected to be announced closer to the launch of Amp'd Mobile later this year.
