Mobile download market to reach Euros 7.6 billion in one year

July 10, 2005 - source: BWCS

A new survey from LogicaCMG, has predicted that consumer demand for mobile downloads will triple by 2006. According to the London-based company the global market for mobile content market will be worth euros 7.6 billion within 12 months.

Logica points out that over 20% of the world's mobile user base have already downloaded some content to their mobile handsets. However, within the next year the UK company projects that this figure will rise to over 60%. According to the survey which involved interviews with consumers in Europe, North and South America and the Asia-Pacific region, the average monthly spend on downloads is around euros 6.32 per subscriber. Over 40% of those spoken to by the researchers said they would spend more on such services within the next year.

The usual suspects of ring tones, games and music remain the three most popular downloads in the global market and this will continue to be the case over the next year says Logica. However, it also believes that news and sports videos will begin to gain a strong mobile following in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region in particular.

By this time next year, Logica predicts that over 10% of the world's mobile users will have experienced downloading a video or movie clip. This figure will rise to 25% in the Asia-Pacific region.
