Amp'd Mobile and Kyocera announce Jet multimedia phone

July 25, 2005

Amp'd Mobile and Kyocera Wireless announced the Jet, an affordable high-speed EV-DO (Evolution Data Optimized) handset for rapid downloading of Amp'd's unique 3G content launching later this year. Jet marks the first EV-DO mobile phone for Kyocera Wireless, a leading global manufacturer of CDMA wireless phones and devices, and will be the lowest-priced handset at Amp'd Mobile, the first fully integrated 3G mobile entertainment company for youth/young adults.

The handset will feature the sliding form factor Kyocera helped popularize and Amp'd Mobile's proprietary user interface, built on BREW 3.1, to easily navigate a fresh perspective on wireless music, videos, entertainment, 3D mobile gaming, and more. Key entertainment features of the handset include an MP3-quality music player with one-button, quick access to favorite tunes; a digital camera with flash and 5x zoom; MPEG-4 video and playback; and a 262,000-color display for optimal viewing of games, videos, graphics and more.

Like all of Amp'd Mobile's EV-DO handsets, Jet will have expandable memory with TransFlash cards, dedicated Push-to-Talk capabilities and will be able to connect to computers for seamless integration with the Amp'd Mobile website and quick and easy management of content downloads.

"Our criteria for selecting handset manufacturers -- as well as other marketing and content partners -- is quality, style, relevance, and a company culture that's able to adapt to new ideas quickly in order to help us deliver this new vision of mobile entertainment," said Don McGuire, chief marketing officer, Amp'd Mobile. "Kyocera has enjoyed great success designing for the youth market at an affordable price and we expect our target audience will be attracted to Jet's design and functionality over other products in the market."

"Amp'd Mobile's service offering is an ideal showcase for our first EV-DO handset," said Jim Kelly, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Kyocera Wireless. "With the company's focus on compelling 3G content for the youth market, Jet's large display and sleek design will be the perfect platform for an entertainment-oriented service."

Amp'd Mobile's Jet will be in a dual-tone black with large external display and sliding form factor. One touch external buttons allow the phone to function in closed or open mode. Complete details on pricing and additional color availability will be announced closer to launch.
