Sony Ericsson K608i on 3 from August

July 26, 2005

3UK announced that it has signed an agreement with Sony Ericsson to supply video mobiles for its handset portfolio.

With this announcement Sony Ericsson joins NEC, Motorola and LG as a preferred supplier of 3G video mobiles to the 3 group of companies.

Sony Ericsson K608i

The K608i is the first Sony Ericsson video mobile available on 3 in the UK and the first model to be delivered under the new agreement. The K608i is a sleek handset, with an innovative design that weighs the same as existing 2G/GSM phones, as well as supporting the full range of 3's products and services.

The K608i, which will go on sale across the UK from the start of August, is a fully functional 3G video mobile and is the latest model from Sony Ericsson's K series. The K608i has an aluminium feel, is easy to use and combines a 1.3 mega pixel camera, capable of digital still and video capture.

Sony Ericsson's latest intuitive dual front camera/phone design makes the handset vertical when it's a phone and horizontal when it's a camera. The handset showcases Today on 3, the UK's first live video mobile news and entertainment channel, which combines leading music, sports, news and entertainment with the mobility and immediacy of video mobile.

Bob Fuller, Chief Executive Officer, 3 UK said; "We're seeing strong competition among manufacturers to deliver the most exciting 3G handsets, this is good for 3, the manufacturers and 3's customers. The addition of Sony Ericsson to our range will ensure 3 continues to offer the widest choice of 3G video mobiles in the UK. The video mobiles available in the market in the second half of this year are comparable in size and weight to GSM phones, but come with the full range of exciting video mobile features, full-length music videos, video calling, live over-the-air interactive gaming and video messaging."

Jan Wareby, Corporate Executive Vice President, Head of Sales and Marketing, from Sony Ericsson said; "During 2004 global subscriptions to 3G services almost doubled and we believe this growth trend is set to continue. We are building our 3G portfolio to support this growth, producing handsets that handle the diversity of services on offer. The K608i is a classic addition to the family that consumers will immediately find appealing and intuitive."
