NewGrid chooses Mindspeed for IMS gateway
July 11, 2006
Mindspeed Technologies, a supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, announced that NewGrid Technology is shipping Mindspeed's Comcerto voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) processor in its NGTG IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) gateway for wireline VoIP and W-CDMA voice applications. The NewGrid NGTG is currently being deployed through its OEM partner in Japan into a next-generation IP-based W-CDMA network. W-CDMA is a primary technology for 3G cellular systems.
NewGrid's NGTG IMS gateway provides a key function in next-generation converged networks by enabling thousands of voice calls to simultaneously traverse across multiple wireless and wireline protocols. The NGTG can connect traditional wireline PSTN to cellular mobile networks, PSTN to IP, PSTN to ATM, or wireless to IP.
"We chose Mindspeed as our processor supplier because it is the only semiconductor company providing a carrier-class software suite for IMS networks combining VoIP processing with comprehensive W-CDMA software protocols," said Sung Jae Lee, chief technology officer for NewGrid. "In addition, Mindspeed's single-chip Comcerto processor includes advanced voice signal processing, high-quality echo cancellation and flexible packet processing."
"We are proud that NewGrid's NGTG IMS gateway is being deployed into the next-generation W-CDMA network in Japan," said Michael Metzger, executive director of marketing for Mindspeed.
Mindspeed's Comcerto processors combine high-performance DSP cores and a packet processing engine with industry-standard streaming packet interfaces to provide a high-density VoIP and voice-over-ATM system-on-a-chip.
