New Tektronix provides reliable testing of 3G and 3.5G network

July 17, 2006

Tektronix announced the Tektronix K1297-G35 Protocol Tester for mobile equipment manufacturers and mobile operators. The K1297-G35 brings to market the highest level of test performance available, and allows the testing of new technologies such as HSDPA and HSUPA at data rates of up to four times 14.4 Mbps.

Network equipment manufacturers need to address risks associated with the rapid introduction of new technologies in order to maximize customer satisfaction and minimize operational expenditures. Test labs require high- performance test equipment capable of handling the peak data rates introduced by technologies such as HSDPA and HSUPA. In addition, the launch and deployment of new mobile network products requires simulation under high- capacity conditions (i.e. when the number of subscribers attached to the same network node reaches or even surpasses the one million boundary). Tektronix' K1297-G35 enables customers to test 3G networks under simulated yet realistic conditions. Test applications can cover user-plane traffic representing simulated voice, data and circuit-switched video applications as well as control-plane traffic such as the signaling messages sent during network transactions. The K1297-G35 provides the scalable platform needed to support multi-interface, high-performance as well as high-capacity test applications.

"Customers are challenged by the complexity associated with implementing new technologies such as HSDPA, HSUPA and video call service," said Arif Kareem, Vice President, Network Diagnostics, Tektronix. "We are committed to enabling the successful deployment of 3G and 3.5G technologies with unique test features that provide scalability from function to performance testing. We are pleased to bring this new platform to the market that raises the bar in functional test performance. The K1297-G35 offers the highest speed test environment and the broadest range of protocols and interfaces available that enable our customers to overcome technology and business challenges now and in the future."

A Comprehensive Test Platform for the Latest Mobile Technologies

The K1297-G35 Protocol Tester supports functional testing of a wide range of interfaces in mobile networks. Software packages are available to address the most relevant interfaces within 2G and 3G networks, in addition to the latest technology trends such as functional testing of HSDPA and HSUPA; functional testing of circuit-switched video applications based on the H.324m standard; and Media Gateway functional testing, including support for Tandem Free Operation (TFO). The K1297-G35 offers UTRAN interfaces (Iub, Iur and Iu- PS/Iu-CS); GERAN interfaces (including Gb over FR and Gb over IP); and interfaces within the mobile core network.
