3G event starts in Hong Kong

The sixth annual 3G World Congress held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre opens today to resolve next generation 3G wireless issues with industry leaders.

The event is organised by the CDMA Development Group and the Institute for International Research and is expected to draw in more than 1500 delegates from 32 countries.

The world's leading mobile operators will be present discussing the opportunities and challenges ahead for making money in the 3G wireless economy including Dick Simpson, president, Telstra International, Australia; Charles Levine, president, Sprint PCS, USA; Agnes Nardi, managing director, Hutchison Telecom; and Chris Hall, managing director, Manx Telecom (BT Wireless), UK; plus KDDI Corp, KT Freetel, ATT&T Wireless, Bell Mobility, Qwest, SK Telecom, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone.

A special speaker, former U.S. Commerce Secretary and global electronic commerce champion William Daley will deliver the keynote address at this year's 3G World Congress on June 12, 2001.

The conference will address all aspects of 3G technology through summits focused on specific aspects of next-generation features and services, and workshops geared towards both business and technical professionals.

"The CDG is honored to have William Daley participate in this year's 3G World Congress," said Perry LaForge, executive director for the CDG. His vision for global commerce and free trade, is very important to 3G evolution and the necessary development of wireless technology."

"I believe that the advances in wireless technology and the ability to bring those technologies to the masses will continue to pave the way to successful global commerce and communications systems. I look forward to speaking at this year's 3G World Congress and to discussing the state of 3G and its deployment throughout the world."

Also attending will be a diverse group of representatives from companies, industry leaders and government regulators such as Compaq, Ericsson, Kyocera, Lucent Technologies, Nokia, Nortel Networks, QUALCOMM, Samsung, Agilent Technologies, ComWorks Corporation, Fujitsu, Motorola, Philips, CTIA, CDMA Development Group, International Bureau FCC USA, Director General of Telecommunications, OFTA, Hong Kong and others. These organizations will be discussing a variety of topics including Strategies for Profit in the Mobile & Wireless World, 3G Core Network Development & Migration to IP, Exploring the Potential of CDMA for Broadband Fixed Wireless Access, and Evaluating the Capabilities of 3G Handsets & Terminals for Next Generation Services.
