BT and Deutsche Telekom join forces in 3G networkdate: June 12, 2001 BT on Tuesday has struck a deal with Germany's Deutsche Telekom to co-operator on the roll-out of the next generation (3G) mobile phone services. Deutsche Telekom, which owns One2One, and BT face a multi-million pound bill to built 3G network across Europe. Deth-laden BT said it could save up to 30% over 10 years on the capital cost of building the networks and over 1000 jobs in the company. BT had planned to spend 10 billion pounds ($13.7 billion) over five years to roll out 3G networks at home and abroad. Following the deal, it hopes to cut that capital spending by around 1.3 billion pounds, a spokesman said. It also saw more savings on operation coats with a reduction in the required number of masts and base stations.
