"We plan to put MPEG4 on our WCDMA 3G service to enable video streaming," said Keiichi Enoki and added video streaming will be a leading 3G function for generating profits. "The greatest number of users will likely be those who watch video clips lasting 10 to 20 seconds," he said. "There may be those who watch video clips lasting 30 minutes, but this will be for corporate use." MPEG4 is the most advanced of the Motion Picture Expert Group's industry standards for encoding and compressing video data, which is necessary to allow users to download video clips from news, entertainment and other sites seamlessly onto their mobile phones. He said the 3G handset provides Internet access at roughly 40 times the speed of current mobile technology at 384kbps and would be the first mobile handset based on MPEG4 technology.
