Lucent awarded 3G Industry Achievement Award

date: June 14, 2001 - source: CDG

Lucent today announced it received the CDMA Development Group's 3G Industry Achievement Award for Infrastructure Technology Innovation at the 3G World Congress in Hong Kong.

The award acknowledges Lucent's achievements in delivering innovative wireless solutions to customers and in leading the industry in CDMA, the underlying technology for 3G wireless networks. Lucent was recognized for introducing network capabilities that allow 3G operators flexible and cost-effective solutions for implementing advanced features and an easy evolution path to future enhancements.

"We congratulate Lucent for their achievements in the wireless industry and their continued dedication to the development of CDMA technology," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDMA Development Group.

"Lucent won this award based on the impact that the company's portfolio of global network solutions for the Internet has made in the 3G wireless industry."

Specifically, Lucent was cited for its innovative portfolio of global network solutions for the mobile Internet and its support of the third-generation technology known as CDMA2000 1xEV-DO (1xEvolution-Data Only). This 3G technology makes it possible to transmit data at speeds up to 165 times faster than possible in current wireless voice and data networks so that subscribers can open complex e-mail attachments, download music to their phones directly from the Internet or send pictures to one another's handsets.

"Lucent is honored to receive this achievement award for our work in 3G," said Mike Iandolo, CDMA product management vice president. "It underscores our leadership in CDMA, which is the underlying technology for all the major 3G technologies, and our commitment to innovative solutions that deliver on the promise of the mobile Internet."
