Ericsson principal WCDMA supplier to Hutchison

Ericsson has been selected as the principal supplier for Hutchison Telecoms' 3G network in Australia. The contract price is approximately US$435 million and is Ericsson's first 3G contract in Australasia and 32 WCDMA commercial agreement so far for Ericsson globally.

Ericsson will provide a 3G network including radio access network, IP core network and transmission technologies. Also included are advanced network management systems, network operations, mobile Internet application platforms and terminals. Motorola will provide its radio access network (RAN) in the Sydney and Brisbane license areas.

The network will be rolled out for a staged commercial launch end 2002 early 2003.
