DoCoMo expects full scale 3G launch on October 1date: June 21, 2001 Takeshi Natsuno, executive director of DoCoMo's Gateway Business Department said its 3G introductory FOMA service is still experiencing technical problems after two months in service, but the company is sticking and is positive to its deadline of Oct. 1 for a full commercial rollout of the 3G service. Natsuno told the press at a telecommunications forum in Singapore, "So far we are confident to launch from Oct. 1.", referring to the launch of the full-scale commercial services. Natsuno said the 3G introductory phase which DoCoMo launched on May 30 is just like 2.5G GPRS (general packet radio service),. "Sometimes it's not stable, sometimes it's stable. But, it's working." Natsuno said the main challenge is to simultaneously develop 3G mobile phone technology and the 3G network - with content quality growing alongside 3G network technology and user experience. "The biggest challenge here is to synchronise the speed of evolution forever," he said.
