World's First Test Of Advanced 3G Broadband in Montreal Trialdate: June 26, 2001 - source: IPWireless announced that they have been selected by Inukshuk Internet, to trial IPWireless' Advanced 3G broadband wireless complete system solution. Inukshuk Internet is a new company dedicated to connecting Canadians across a state-of-the-art, Internet Protocol (IP) wireless broadband access network. This collaboration marks the first-ever international trial of a 3G UMTS standards-based broadband wireless Internet access technology. In the trial, Inukshuk Internet will deploy IPWireless' complete network and customer equipment solution to deliver broadband wireless Internet access to residential and business users throughout certain areas of metropolitan Montreal. Participants in this first-of-its-kind trial will be equipped with IPWireless' pocket-sized portable broadband modems, giving them instantaneous, high-speed Internet access through simple "plug and play" installation. IPWireless' technology eliminates the need to mount outside antennas on home or office buildings. Additionally, its hassle-free self-installation alleviates customer frustrations of waiting for a technician to install the service. IPWireless' non- line-of-sight technology supports in-building coverage, giving trial participants complete portability and the freedom of a wireless Internet connection. This powerful solution allows customers to exploit all the Internet has to offer at the highest speeds, anytime, anywhere. IPWireless' technology is ideally suited to work alongside the GSM PCS network operated by Inukshuk's affiliate, Microcell Connexions Inc. IPWireless' base stations have similar coverage compared to GSM, and can therefore share Microcell's existing towers and facilities, allowing rapid and cost effective deployment. IPWireless high-speed portable Internet technology is compliant with the international UMTS 3G standards, which are part of the same ETSI / 3GPP standards family as GSM, making the two technologies complementary. IPWireless' technology currently operates in the 2.5 - 2.7 GHz wireless spectrum and can also be applied to international spectrum in the IMT 2000 band (1.9 - 2.2 GHz) and other bands as required. IPWireless has been successfully testing its broadband wireless technology in Greensboro, North Carolina since August 2000. Today's announcement marks the beginning of its most significant international test to date.
