Czech ready for 3G auction in Septdate: June 26, 2001 David Stadnik, chief of Czech Telecoms Office (CTU), on Tuesday said it will call a tender on Friday for four licences to operate next-generation 3G mobile networks. The CTU plans to offer three UMTS 3G licences to the current operators of GSM (EuroTel, RadioMobil and Cesky Mobil) mobile phone networks. It plans to auction the fourth, plus any of the other three if current operators refuse to pay a fixed fee. The government hopes to raise 20 billion crowns ($509 million) from the sale of the four licences. The licences are due to be granted by the end of September. see also: Czech 3G information
