US to delay allocating 3G spectrum said CTIAdate: June 27, 2001 The Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) on Wednesday said The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will delay allocating spectrum for 3G airwaves. The FCC was to allocate the spectrum on late July. The agency is struggling to find suitable airwaves for 3G services because the US Army, schools, churches and health-care centres are using most of the required 3G airwaves. Tom Wheeler, head of CTIA said the decision will benefit U.S. consumers, the wireless industry and the U.S. economy by allowing these bands to be incorporated into a larger, long-term spectrum management policy. Last month the CTIA sent a letter to Michael Powell of the FCC asking a modest delay in its spectrum allocation proceeding to allow more time analysing the spectrum requirement.
