ArrayComm-led Consortium to Deploy i-BURST Mobile Wireless Broadband Internet System in Australiadate: June 19, 2002 ArrayComm announced that its wholly-owned Australian subsidiary, CKW Wireless, has formed an AU$25 million (approximately US$14.3 million) Consortium to deploy the i-BURST mobile broadband wireless Internet access system in Australia. This involves the operation of up to 10 radio communications base stations, providing coverage to over 150 square kilometers (approximately 60 square miles). Phase One will commence in November 2002. The i-BURST system creates a carrier grade wide area wireless data network. Distinct and complementary to traditional 2G and emerging 3G systems and short-range wireless local area 802.11 (WiFi) networks, i-BURST technology delivers a revolutionary Internet experience, combining the freedom of mobility, low cost infrastructure and transmission speeds and prices similar to a typical home broadband DSL line. The system will be deployed in a 5 MHz band of Time-Division Duplexed (TDD) unpaired 3G spectrum that CKW Wireless acquired last year. The spectrum becomes available for use in October. “Since the Australian system will operate in TDD 3G spectrum, our success would easily and quickly be replicated in many other countries with similar spectrum,” said Nitin J. Shah, chief strategy officer for ArrayComm. “Our ability to build a consortium of industry leaders in Australia to deploy the i-BURST network also illustrates the attractive economics that our business plan offers in other markets such as the United States.”
