Zesium test tool shortens time to market for UMTS terminalsdate: June 25, 2002 Zesium, a new player in the market for mobile communications software, announced the commercial availability of an advanced UMTS test tool, named Zephyr, which will significantly reduce the testing effort for UMTS terminals, thereby accelerating time to market for 3G devices. Zesium's UMTS User Equipment test tool is a PC based tool, which emulates a UMTS basestation in order to test UMTS terminal software. Designed for ease of use, it is targeted at development engineers who require fast test case entry and rapid turnaround of testing results. To this end Zephyr provides graphical tools for test case entry and peer-to-peer message design. The Zephyr basestation emulation is configured automatically using information from the test cases, removing the need for detailed knowledge of tool programming. Zesium will provide Zephyr together with a set of 3GPP 34.123 conformance tests and expand the test case suite to eventually cover the entire conformance test range. The availability of test cases in graphical message sequence chart format, removes the need to use TTCN in early stages of protocol design and software integration. According to Zesium's experience the average time to adapt Zephyr to a customer's 3G protocol stack less than one week. Zesium offers support and services in this area if needed.
