MII says Siemens and Datang did not receive rights to build a 3G networkdate: June 29, 2002 Wang Lijian, the spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Information Industry (MII) has denied reports emanating from Hong Kong that Siemens and Datang Telecom Technology had received approval to build a 3G mobile communication network. The Hong Kong media reports said Siemens AG and its Chinese partner Datang had obtained rights to build a 3G mobile communication network based on the jointly developed TD-SCDMA standard. The reports also said the two companies were the first to get approval in China. However, Wang denied the reports and said the 3G network is still under examination and that no such license would be issued in the short term.
