Lucent introduces software for UMTS/W-CDMA high-speed data solution
June 2, 2003
Lucent Technologies introduced the latest software release for its end-to-end
high-speed data solution for 3G UMTS networks, also known as W-CDMA. This
comprehensive software solution enables mobile operators to provide data
services at speeds of up to 384 kbps, and delivers exceptional levels
of reliability and system performance.
Lucent's UMTS/W-CDMA high-speed data solution is designed to enable mobile
operators to provide enterprises and consumers with super-fast data connections
- comparable to DSL or cable modem -- via laptop computers and PDAs equipped
with specially designed UMTS/W-CDMA wireless modem cards.
"Our latest commercial UMTS/W-CDMA software release is focused on the
enterprise and small or home office markets and delivers all of the critical
features that UMTS/W-CDMA operators are looking for as they begin to roll
out commercial data services, including a number of unique security and
provisioning features specifically designed to address the needs of enterprise
customers," said Roger Derrien, vice president for UMTS product management
with Lucent.
Lucent has conducted a rigorous testing program to ensure that its UMTS/W-CDMA
high-speed data solution can meet mobile operators' stringent performance
requirements. Performance testing conducted in Lucent's labs and in customer
networks has consistently demonstrated high levels of reliability and
stability. Additionally, the system demonstrates extreme dependability
managing one of the most critical challenges in the development of spread-spectrum
networks, soft handoff - moving an end-user's call from one base station
to another, and maintaining the connection, as the caller travels throughout
a coverage area.
Lucent's UMTS/W-CDMA software is designed to support Lucent's commercial-grade
UMTS/W-CDMA infrastructure, including the Flexent OneBTS base station,
Flexent Radio Network Controller and core data networking solutions.
