3 UK on track with sales
June 4, 2003
Colin Tucker, co-chief Executive of 3 UK, said the current handset sales
exceeded its business plan and gave the first hint it might fall short
of full-year sale targets.
"The growth rates indicate that we should be able to get close to our
objective by the end of the year," said Tucker at the FT World Mobile
Communications.
Caning Fok, Managing Director of Hutchison Whampoa that controls 3 UK,
originally said the group planed to sell 1 million handsets in the UK
by the end of the year.
Tucker said teething problems with the network, which spoiled its launch
in March, were now over and sales were broadly on track.
"It's been growing really well, and if you take the period since we've
been going, it's well ahead of where we expected to be in out business
plan," said Tucker.
Official targets now say that 3 UK and its sister companies will see
two million handsets across Europe by the end of 2003.
3 UK is now in talk with several handset vendors but cannot confirm what
models will be release soon.
The company is gearing up for a robust fourth quarter in the run up to
the Christmas holiday with new package deals coming up very soon.
