Vodafone data card runs into compatibility problems

June 22, 2004

A number of laptop models have compatibility problems with Vodafone's 3G data card. After customers reported problems with the data card, the operator circulated to its stores a list of incompatible laptop models.

The list, seen by the Daily Express, contains three models of the IBM Thinkpad, the popular Dell Inspiron 8500 and three models of the Dell Latitude. Other models on the list include the Hewlett Packard Omnibook 6100 and the Compaq Evo 1020.

The data card, the prelude to Vodafone's 3G handset service, has been launched in several European countries. Vodafone has also launched 3G handset services in Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands and Portugal but has yet to release in the UK.

A spokesperson for Vodafone said the company is aware of issues with certain models and is developing upgrades all the time.
