Beach Solutions offers support for OMAP 3G mobile devices

June 9, 2005

Beach Solutions, the ESL Synthesis Company, announced that it has joined Texas Instruments's (TI's) OMAP Developer Network. Beach also introduced a platform specific implementation of its popular EASI-Studio system-level design solution, designed to support product developers targeting TI's OMAP platform for 3G mobile devices. Beach has worked with TI in supporting TI customers and partners in the development of OMAP processor-based products.

The new OMAP platform support is based on the Beach EASI-Studio tool suite which manages system specification and drives implementation, delivery and consistency across the entire system by providing control and seamless integration, regardless of the design flow. EASI-Studio is a high level ESL methodology, which efficiently profiles the OMAP platform and associated IP and then drives the implementation of an OMAP processor based system. This ESL methodology allows design teams to validate the interface of IP and an OMAP processor and to consistently generate different views of the IP to the various design groups and required disciplines.

"We are pleased to be able to offer the worldwide developer base targeting the OMAP platform with an efficient and streamlined approach to managing their system level methodology," said Steve Kompolt, VP of Marketing at Beach. "Our experience in working with the team at TI on issues such as IP management and reuse, verification and test development, and overall design management has translated into a solution that will benefit all product developers targeting this popular platform. We're confident the productivity and time-to-market benefits will make EASI-Studio for the OMAP platform an essential tool in designers' methodologies."

EASI-Studio for the OMAP platform can be used by designers to capture the specification of the system, including a detailed view of the system's address map, and then validate the specification based on over 250 different IP and systems rules. EASI-Studio will automatically connect an IP based design together and then drive the implementation of the hardware, software, verification, test and documentation.

"Beach's support for a system-level methodology targeting the OMAP platform will enable OEMs and developers to manage the variety of IP required for the diverse, dynamic and multi-standard mobile device marketplace. We are pleased to welcome Beach to the OMAP Developer Network where they will be a strong EDA addition to support for OMAP platforms," said Bryce Johnstone, marketing and strategy manager of TI's Cellular Systems Ecosystem.

Managing specification changes of a complex system design is one of the biggest challenges that any large organization has to master. EASI-Studio for the OMAP platform automatically updates the entire design interface descriptions in the documentation, verification, test hardware and software environments based on changes made to the specification. Consistency across the design spectrum is achieved so a bug free design can work first time. This also results in a significant time to market advantage and allows schedules to be managed more effectively, saving millions of dollars.

Other tasks that can be automated and streamlined using EASI-Studio for the OMAP platform include:

-- Creation of hardware design files suitable for use in logic synthesis and simulation;

-- Creation of hardware verification and test code in standard HDLs;

-- Creation of software API's in the form of a hardware abstraction layer in both C and C++.

Availability

The EASI-Studio for OMAP processors solution is available from Beach Solutions now, as an add-on to EASI-Studio.
