Lucent to expand VIVO's 3G CDMA2000 1X network

June 27, 2005

Lucent Technologies announced that it has signed an agreement with VIVO, the largest mobile operator in Brazil, to increase the capacity and coverage of VIVO's 3G CDMA2000 1X network. Lucent's solutions will be used to expand the operator's network in the Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santo and Sergipe markets and will enable VIVO to offer high-quality voice and high-speed mobile data services.

The agreement is part of VIVO's nationwide network expansion project. Lucent will provide VIVO with Flexent Modular Cell 4.0 Compact base stations and upgrade existing Lucent-supplied base stations. In addition, new mobile switching centers (MSCs) will be installed in the states of Sao Paulo and Sergipe, while existing central offices in these and other markets will be upgraded and enhanced. Lucent Worldwide Services (LWS) will provide network deployment, maintenance, RF (radio frequency) optimization and consulting services.

"We are committed to providing our subscribers with the best mobile network experience - and this will enable us to remain the leading mobile operator in Brazil," said Javier Rodriguez, VIVO technology vice president.

Lucent will also provide OSS (Operational Support Systems) solutions to help VIVO meet and exceed its QoS (Quality of Service) goals. Lucent's VitalNTP (Network Trouble Patterning) software will provide the tools for VIVO to optimize network performance through real-time network monitoring.

The contract also includes the deployment of Lucent's VitalNet and NPM (Provisioning Manager) software solutions, which will support the operator's ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network expansion. By using VitalNet, VIVO will be able to monitor the performance of its ATM network, while NPM will facilitate provisioning and help reduce operational costs.

LWS also will provide professional services to help VIVO manage its billing processes once the network expansion is competed.

VIVO also will leverage the Lucent Market Advantage Program (MAP) as the company continues to expand its network and offer mobile high-speed data services to its enterprise and residential customers. MAP is a global program designed to help Lucent's customers and business partners identify market opportunities, develop marketing plans and speed profitable service launches.
