Nokia to supply Telia Mobile’s Finnish 3G network

date: 09th March 2001, source by: CIT

Nordic telecoms operator Telia Mobile has chosen Nokia as the sole supplier for its 3G network in Finland. Under the terms of the letter of intent (LOI) signed by the two companies, Nokia will supply its 3G WCDMA radio access network and 3G IP mobility core network. The LOI forms part of the recently announced pan-Nordic 3G network agreement between Telia and Nokia, which includes the supply of WCDMA equipment to Telia’s Norwegian mobile operator, NetCom. The agreement also includes an additional option for Denmark subject to the award of UMTS licences there.

Telia launched its Finnish mobile operations in 1998 and had 113,000 subscribers by July 2000. Finland currently has over 3.6 million mobile subscribers with a mobile penetration of 70%.
