Hutchison to seek one more European 3G licence-Li

date: 22 March 2001, source by: Reuters

Ports-to-telecoms conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa Ltd will seek one more third-generation (3G) mobile phone licence in Europe, chairman Li Ka-shing told reporters on Thursday during the company's 2000 results briefing.

Li said the company also plans to seek 3G licences in its home base of Hong Kong and elsewhere in Asia, but he declined to name any other countries Asia where the company hopes to provide next-generation mobile services.

Hutchison holds 3G spectrum licences in Britain, Italy, Austria and Sweden.
