Nokia to hold 3G event in Denmark for clients

date: 27 March 2001

Telecoms equipment maker Nokia will hold a meeting for clients and analysts in Copenhagen next Tuesday focused on third-generation (3G) telecoms networks and the mobile Internet, the company said.

Finland's Nokia said it expected about 300 people to attend the meeting where the copmany would talk about the presentations already made at the GSM World Congress in Cannes last month and at the technology fair CeBIT in Hanover last week.

Mid-level executives fron Nokia's mobile Internet and networks divisions would be present at the conference as would some external speakers.

Last week Nokia unveiled new mobile Internet phones that will work on General Packet Radio Service technology and presented a timetable of when it thought 3G would be up and running. The company also said it had a goal to become the world's leading supplier of third-generation mobile networks.

Third-generation networks, which are seen fully operational by early 2003, are expected to allow fast Internet access via mobile phones and other multi-media services like video, moving images and pictures.

``This is an opportunity for our local customers in Denmark and Norway to hear what we've been showing at these events,'' Jane Lucas, Nokia Networks marketing and communications manager in Denmark, told the press. ``It's an industry seminar... it's not confidential and no new news will be presented.''

Nokia said the event was not open to the media, but added that a news conference ahead of the conference would be held in Copenhagen on Monday.

The market has increasingly been focusing on the strategies of telecoms operators and network providers when it comes to this new technology as the industry tries to recoup billions of dollars invested in getting 3G going.
