Vodafone Expects Mass Market After 2003date: March 12, 2002 Vodafone said on Tuesday it did not expect a mass market for 3G high-speed, new-generation services before 2004. Speaking at a press conference at the Cebit technology fair in Germany, the head of Vodafone D2 educated that although the group planned to pilot WCDMA 3G mobiles this autumn, it could take another three years before the service really takes off. "I do not expect a mass market before 2004 or 2005," Juergen von Kuczkowski said. "There will be no Big Bang. This will be an evolution and (current) GSM services will long remain our core business." Nokia also said it was on track to launch a 3G handset later in the year, offering high-speed Internet access. There had been fears that a lack of handsets could further delay the move to 3G technologies, in which European operators have already invested huge sums.
