Lucent Technologies to Demonstrate 3G High-Speed Mobile Datadate: March 13, 2002 Lucent Technologies today announced plans to demonstrate 3G high-speed mobile data and voice solutions with several of the industry's wireless device manufacturers at the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) Wireless 2002 show, taking place March 18-20 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. Lucent is working with these companies to exhibit 3G voice and data transmissions on a variety of devices using commercial Lucent 3G network equipment. The Ricoh RDC-i700, the first wireless Internet-ready digital camera, will be enabled by 3G CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO technology to transmit digital images over Lucent's 3G equipment, while another demo featuring client software from ipUnplugged AB will demonstrate seamless roaming and network handoffs between an 802.11 wireless LAN and CDMA2000 1X network. "These collaborations with some of the leading device manufacturers in the industry makes it clear that 3G is here today," said Jamie Kistler, director of strategic device alliances, Lucent Mobility Solutions Group. "The unique combination of devices working with our commercial 3G equipment will give people a clear and compelling picture of the types of real-world applications and services that can be delivered via high-speed 3G networks." For the first time, Lucent also will be demonstrating SIP-enabled (Session Initiation Protocol) VoIP calls over CDMA2000 1X and 802.11 packet data networks. Visitors to Lucent's booth can make SIP voice calls over these networks using Compaq iPAQ Pocket PCs. The Lucent PacketIN iSIP Proxy Server and CDMA2000 equipment also will be used for the demo. In addition, Lucent's Terminal Interoperability (I/O) Lab will conduct interoperability tests in the Lucent booth with AirPrime's EM5200 series of CDMA2000 1xEV-DO embedded modules and Sanyo's SCP-5150 CDMA2000 1X handset. Lucent also will be working with other UMTS device vendors on I/O testing. The Lucent Terminal I/O Lab is an industry-leading device test center located in Lucent's facility in Whippany, N.J. that performs benchmark testing to ensure that various mobile devices are compatible with Lucent's wireless network infrastructure equipment.
