Sprint and Samsung Unveil 3G PCS Phones at CTIA Wireless 2002date: March 19, 2002 Attendees to the Samsung "Magic of Multimedia" booth at the CTIA Wireless 2002 show in Orlando will be the first to get a glimpse of two new Sprint 3G Phones by Samsung, the SPH-n400 and the SPH-a500. With their sleek and stylish packages, these two 3G phones combine full-color screens, polyphonic ringers and sounds through CMX technology, and high-speed Internet access to support new and enhanced applications. The n400 and a500 will be available to customers with Sprint's planned launch of its 3G network in mid-2002. At the Samsung booth, Samsung and Sprint will showcase the new devices and simulate applications that take advantage of the phones' full- color screens and advanced technology. Additionally, the following innovative technologies are expected be available on the n400 and a500 as Sprint deploys applications on its 3G Network. For Sprint customers, 3G1X services are planned to launch nationwide in mid-2002 and are expected to initially provide faster wireless data speeds and enhancements to their existing applications and services when using 3G enabled devices like the n400 and a500. It also establishes a platform for later releases of new and more robust applications as data speeds increase including: Messaging: Consumers will have more ways to connect to the people and information they want. With Sprint's messaging services, customers can interact with their family, friends, co-workers and clients in a variety of ways from virtually anywhere, anytime on the Sprint nationwide PCS network. Sprint PCS Business Connection: Sprint plans to make it easier and more cost effective for customers to access corporate data and applications including e-mail via the n400 and a500 or wirelessly connected handheld computers and laptops with Sprint PCS Business Connection. Wireless Digital Imaging: Sprint plans to offer customers wireless digital imaging solutions that will provide easier, faster, more cost-effective methods of instant visual communication. Customers will be able to upload images to a web-based storage vault and be able to wirelessly access and retrieve images on their n400 and a500, as well as share them via online photo albums. Wireless ISP: Sprint plans to offer faster and easier wireless Internet access with richer graphical content and color via the n400 and a500, as well as wirelessly enabled handheld computers and laptops virtually anytime, anywhere on the Sprint Third Generation Network. "The nationwide launch of our enhanced 3G applications on devices like the Sprint PCS n400 and a500 by Samsung will clearly continue to keep Sprint in the lead," said John Garcia, senior vice president of sales and distribution for Sprint's PCS division. "Through our strategic partnership with Sprint, Samsung is able to bring innovative products like the n400 and a500 to consumers as the ultimate experience in 3G technology," said Peter Skarzynski, senior vice president of sales and marketing, STA.
