Orange and SFR agree Wi-Fi complements 3Gdate: March 19, 2002 Orange and Vivendi Universal and Vodafone backed SFR, are reportedly considering possible uses of Wi-Fi wireless technology in corroboration with 3G. SFR's chief executive, Pierre Bardon said that the company did not want to be excluded from the technology. Didier Quillot, Orange France's chief executive also indicated that they had included Wi-Fi in their business plans. Bardon also voiced his disagreement with the thinking that pitched Wi-Fi against UMTS. "We see Wi-Fi as complementary to UMTS, but it will be reserved for a few so-called hot spots," such as hotels and airports," he said. Both executives indicated that the French regulator ART was currently studying Wi-Fi.
