interWAVE to Launch Broadband Radios Optimized for Backhaul of Converged Data in 2G to 3G Mobile Networksdate: March 19, 2002 interWAVE Communications today announced that it will launch its new product line of point-to-point, high-capacity, all-outdoor radios during the second quarter of 2002. interWAVE's WaveNet Link CX product line of cost-competitive 5.3 GHz UNII band and 5.8 GHz ISM band radios, optimized for backhaul of converged voice and data in second generation (2G) to third generation (3G) mobile networks, boasts such features as automatic transmit power control; E3, DS3 and 10/100 Base-T digital interface options; forward error correction; fully-hardened outdoor packaging; multiple management ports as well as Telco-grade design and performance. interWAVE will target service providers and carriers looking for a high capacity broadband solution for backhauling cellular and data traffic. "State-of-the-art chip technology allows us to offer 34 Mbps to 50 Mbps of throughput for about the same cost of prior generation radios that delivered 2 Mbps of throughput," said Ian Walter, director of product management for interWAVE. "We have designed our WaveNet Link CX family of radios as the ideal solution for cellular operators looking to upgrade and expand their networks, telecom carriers looking to add capacity to their networks or for private enterprises looking to extend Internet access throughout their networks."
