MobilCom plans 3G for Q4date: March 20, 2002 It's ongoing row with France Telecom over 3G funding notwithstanding, Germany's MobilCom has confirmed that it aims to offer its 3G services in 20 German cities from Q4 this year if handsets are available. Chief Executive Gerhard Schmid said that MobilCom expects the first 3G handsets to be available in Q3, with dual-band phones available in the Q4. Dependent on the battle with France Telecom MobilCom aims to invest about EUR1.3bn to build up its network through 2003 to meet the terms of its 3G license which stipulate a 25 per cent population coverage by the end of next year. "If we have the possibility of fulfilling the minimum requirement for less investment, then I'll do it immediately," Schmid claimed at a press conference at CeBIT.
