LG Telecom says no to cdma2000 1X EV-DOdate: March 22, 2002 A perceived lack of demand has forced Korea's LG Telecom to give up on implementing the cdma2000 1x EV-DO technology into its network. The company's senior managing executive Lee Sang-min said that EV-DO was only in the experimental stage and that supporting handsets have yet to be commercialised. Of course LG famously won the only cdma2000 license in South Korea. However, rivals SK Telecom and KTF are both going ahead with plans to introduce 1x EV-DO for the World Cup football tournament in May. KTF has entered into deals with several broadcasters to deliver streaming video replays from World Cup matches to its new service subscribers.
