Sprint Provides Free Sprint-Specific Java Toolkit to Drive Application Development for Its 3G Networkdate: March 25, 2002 The Sprint PCS Application Developer's Program is connecting content developers to useful software tools and relevant information by providing, without charge, its Sprint PCS Developer Resource Kit. This resource kit includes a Sprint- specific JAVA API document, and Sprint PCS Wireless Toolkit for the Java platform, which is the testing environment for J2ME. The Wireless Toolkit includes device emulators -- the essential technical components needed to create wireless applications for the Sprint 3G Network. Sprint will launch its Third Generation Network in mid-2002. "Sprint's clear path to 3G establishes a platform for releases of new and enhanced applications as data speeds increase. By providing clear information to content developers now, Sprint expects to deliver the best-designed and developed applications to its customers at launch," said John Yuzdepski, vice president and general manager of Sprint's PCS.com division. "To support developers in this endeavor, we have created and are distributing free the Sprint Wireless Toolkit for the Java Platform as part of the Developer Resource Kit containing valuable insight on 3G devices, testing and the Sprint Third Generation Network." These fundamental tools are designed to support JAVA developers in creating interactive applications for the Sprint Third Generation Network. At the launch of the 3G 1X nationwide network, Sprint expects faster wireless data speeds and enhancements for existing applications and services when using a 3G-enabled device. As these data speeds increase, it also establishes a platform for later releases of new and more robust applications including enhanced messaging, email with attachments, enhanced games, video and audio clips, high-speed Internet browsing and digital imaging.
