PacketVideo and Siemens To Promote Marketing and Development of Mobile Applications

date: March 27, 2002

PacketVideo Corp. and Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (IC Mobile) today announced a bilateral reseller agreement for marketing mobilemedia applications.

In addition, PacketVideo has also agreed to collaborate with Siemens Mobile Acceleration GmbH (smac), a hundred percent subsidiary of IC Mobile. Siemens Mobile Acceleration promotes start-up companies specializing in the development of mobile applications.

Within the scope of its agreement with PacketVideo, IC Mobile will market communication, entertainment and information applications developed by members of PacketVideo's Global Developer Network (pvGDN) to operators for integration into mobile networks. PacketVideo will also market the mobilemedia applications from IC Mobile's Developer Village to its operator customers. In addition, both PacketVideo and IC Mobile will cross promote each others' developer network opportunities through co-marketing materials and programs. Siemens Mobile Acceleration will offer its extensive services and potential financial investments to the developers in the pvGDN. Both of these agreements offer huge benefits to members of both Siemens' Developer Village and the pvGDN network, by offering developers access to additional distribution and exposure to mobile operators as well as funding opportunities.

"The Siemens and PacketVideo developer networks offer excellent tools to support the creation of compelling applications for mobile users," said Eva Remerie, vice president business development mobile solutions from Siemens IC Mobile. "Through our reseller agreement, our mobile operator customers will have direct access to our developers' mobilemedia applications, enabling them to differentiate their feature offerings with compelling rich media services."

Siemens Mobile Acceleration, a recently founded organization within Siemens IC Mobile that focuses on the success of emerging mobile application development companies, will work with the pvGDN to provide services and support to innovative companies in order to help proliferate the quantity and quality of new applications while accelerating the time to market.

"PacketVideo and Siemens recognize the value of fostering early-stage, innovative companies in order to increase the adoption of mobile media services and applications," said Dr. Dietrich Ulmer chief executive officer of Siemens Mobile Acceleration. "By providing the financial support many developers need, as well as opening up our sales channels with access to 150 operators worldwide, Siemens' intends to become a strategic partner with creative developers who will help drive the wireless industry forward."

"Recognizing that application development is an important component in driving mobile media adoption, PacketVideo continually seeks new opportunities to improve the tools and services available to our pvGDN members. This agreement with Siemens IC Mobile provides developers across the globe with an invaluable channel of distribution and a tremendous amount of exposure among leading mobile operators," said Fernando Corona, senior vice president of marketing for PacketVideo. "Additionally, through smac, members of the pvGDN will be eligible to receive critical resources, such as office space, funding and strategic advice, to help facilitate their growth."
