mobileID and BTexact Technologies Join to Accelerate Delivery of Mobile Wireless Applications

date: March 27, 2002

mobileID(TM), Inc., a privately held California corporation, and BTexact Technologies, British Telecommunications plc's advanced research and technology business, announced an agreement to pursue the development, marketing and sales of an integrated end-to-end solution for the rapid development and deployment of mobile applications. The solution will be based on the work of a BTexact project, code named `Erica', and mobileID's iRAMP(TM) (integrated Rapid Application Mobilization Platform) system.

The agreement builds on a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in December 2001, in which both companies agreed to create a formal relationship allowing them technical access and marketing rights to each other's technology platforms.

mobileID's iRAMP System provides wireless specific application development and deployment software and tools for Java(TM) engineers to help them create server-side J2EE wireless applications. mobileID enables developers to build server-side mobile applications that can leverage network operator or third party mobile services such as location and messaging, and address wireless specific challenges such as multiple device support and session management.

BTexact's Erica project is a platform that mobile operators can deploy that allows developers to build and operate applications from wherever they like through a single technology interface. It will support mass-market applications, such as location-based, SMS and call-control (conference calls, etc), eCommerce and enterprise services, for 2, 2.5 and 3G networks. It removes the need to handle complex technology integration and multiple access technologies. The platform will enable network operators to evaluate products and revenue opportunities much faster in order to reduce the time and effort involved in bringing an application to market.

mobileID and BTexact have also agreed to harmonize their respective development roadmaps to help mobile carriers and application developers further accelerate the development and deployment of mobile wireless applications. The results of this ongoing work are likely to include a Java-based integrated service provisioning environment and a mobile applications design, development, test and deployment environment.

Stewart Davies, CEO BTexact Technologies, said: "We believe that mobileID's technology together with Erica will help further the rapid expansion of mobile applications."

"mobileID is delighted to form this strategic relationship with BTexact," said Arlin Torbett, CEO and Chairman of mobileID. "We were looking for a global technology partner with complementary wireless technology and carrier relationships. BTexact's `Erica' platform will help us to expand our technology platform and customer base."
