DT finds WLAN beats WCDMA
March 5, 2003
A Deutsche Telekom internal strategy paper found that wireless
local area networks are more efficient in most cases than data transmission
by WCDMA third-generation mobile services, the WirtschaftsWoche
magazine says.
Around 90% of the data applications planned for 3G are better fulfilled
by so-called WiFi, the magazine said. WiFi offers better Internet
access in stations, airports, hotels and restaurants - the sites
that are being targeted for 3G, it said in the pre-release of an
article to appear Thursday.
