T-Mobile Austria Deploys Micromuse's Netcool Service Assurance Solutions

March 11, 2003

Micromuse, providers of service and business assurance software, today announced that T-Mobile Austria has implemented the Netcool solution to manage voice and data services across its GSM, GPRS and 3G in Austria.

"The market penetration for mobile communications in Austria is currently 83%, and of this figure, every third mobile phone owner is a T-Mobile Austria customer. With consistent high demand on the network coupled with a drive to provide more value-added data services, there was a requirement for a robust and scalable service assurance solution," said Guenther Ottendorfer, Chief Operating Officer, T-Mobile. "T-Mobile's voice and data networks can generate upwards of two and a half million alarms every couple of hours, and the Netcool solution has proven its ability to quickly scale to enable our IT/NT operations teams to proactively manage our service infrastructure and pinpoint service degradation before it impacts the customer."

T-Mobile Austria have been providing services based on GPRS technology in conjunction with GSM service since 2001, and it is using Netcool's wireless provider solution as an end-to-end platform to manage all service affecting alarms within the network. The Netcool solution helps reduce T-Mobile's volume of event data approximately by a factor of 100. This helps T-Mobile's operations teams quickly locate problems in the infrastructure that might affect the availability of services and allows T-Mobile to deliver on their customer's demands for faster mobile data communications.

T-Mobile is utilizing a complete Netcool solution that is specifically suited to meet the need of wireless providers by allowing proactive management and performance monitoring of T-Mobile's GPRS and forthcoming 3G applications. The Netcool solution includes unique applications for systems and service monitoring that enables constant service uptime through end-to-end monitoring of T-Mobile's GSM, GPRS and 3G infrastructures, helping to maintain the availability and reliability of its mobile communications services.

"T-Mobile Austria joins a wireless customer list that includes sister company T-Mobile UK and several more of the world's largest mobile communications companies," said Richard Lowe, Senior Vice President for Europe, the Middle East & Africa, Micromuse. "Micromuse's track record in GSM networks has given rise to considerable interest from GPRS and 3G operators for a scalable, secure service assurance solution that will help enable IT operations teams provide high levels of service to 3G subscribers."
