Omantel showcased next generation services
March 12, 2003
Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) yesterday organised a
demonstration of the 3G mobile telephony to highlight the services
the new system offers to GSM subscribers.
Two engineers from Omantel made the presentation of the 3G mobile
system, which provides high-speed multimedia service including voice,
image and data on mobile phones.
Engineer Mohammed bin Ali Al Wahaibi, executive president of Omantel,
said the introduction of the new system requires huge investment
as it involves installing new networks.
He said the company intends to introduce the system in response
to GSM subscribers to benefit from mobile phone services like sending
photos and data, chat, games and paying parking fees. The system
already operates in countries such as Japan, South Korea and Austria.
