Chinese Gov urged to issue licenses
March 13, 2003
An expert of the State Radio Regulation Organization (SRRO) of
China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII) was quoted in the
China Daily newspaper as saying that the government should issue
3G licenses by the end of the year or early next year.
He said most of the technological problems have already been solved,
and the time is becoming ripe for the launch of 3G services in China.
Chinese manufacturers are already developing products based on
the three 3G technologies - WCDMA, cdma2000 and TD-SCDMA, but face
uncertainties as long as no licenses are issued and carriers are
committed to implement one or more of the available technologies.
