Powerwave Technologies And Filtronic Introduce Integrated MCPA And
Duplexer Module For UMTS Networks
March 18, 2003
Powerwave Technologies and Filtronic introduced the first integrated
power amplifier and filter product resulting from their 2002 strategic
alliance designed to offer high performance and cost effective RF
products for 3G wireless networks.
The UMTS Amplifier/Filter unit combines a high performance, multi-carrier
power amplifier (MCPA) with a sophisticated duplexer in a compact
configuration and demonstrates full 3GPP compliance over a 20 MHz
(4 carrier W-CDMA) instantaneous bandwidth.
The UMTS Amplifier/Filter integrates Powerwave's new feed-forward
power amplifier architecture, which provides higher efficiency and
improved linearity, with Filtronic's compact ceramic resonator technology
for a more cost effective RF solution. Savings are realized from
eliminating duplicate circuits, sharing specification margins and
combining interfaces within a common mechanical packaging.
"We are excited to be introducing this key product currently being
developed through our strategic alliance with Filtronic," stated
Bruce C. Edwards, President and Chief Executive Officer of Powerwave
Technologies. "Through a joint effort combining the industry leading
experience of Powerwave and Filtronic in the design and manufacturing
of RF subsystems, we are now able to demonstrate cost effective,
integrated RF solutions that meet the demanding technical requirements
of today's 3G market."
"As the world number one in RF transmit and receive units for cellular
base stations, Filtronic is delighted to be working with Powerwave
to support their drive and initiative in bringing integrated power
amplifier RF solutions to market," said Professor J.D. Rhodes, Executive
Chairman of Filtronic plc.
The integrated UMTS Amplifier/Filter unit will be showcased at
CTIA Wireless 2003 in New Orleans, March 17-19, at Powerwave's Booth
2827.
